Volleyball Recap: Box Elder Comes Up Short in High-Profile Game with Payson

Box Elder faced Payson in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Bees fell just short of the Lions by a score of 3-2. If the Bees were looking for revenge after losing 2-0 to the Lions when the teams met back in August of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Brynley Nielson had an outrageously good game for Payson as she had nine digs and six aces. Those six aces gave Nielson a new career-high. Waimea Elkington also deserves some recognition as she had her first blocks of the season.

Box Elder's loss dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Payson, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season.

The future could be bright for both Box Elder and Payson: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. The Bees will try to hand Bonneville their fourth-straight defeat when the two meet at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Payson will look to extend Richfield's six-game losing streak when they meet at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
