Softball Recap: Cheney Wins Going Away Against Gonzaga Prep

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Moses Lake, Cheney was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Gonzaga Prep Bullpups as they made off with a 19-4 victory. With that win, the Blackhawks brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.

Kieli Current and Maddy Hurley made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Current pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Hurley struck out six batters over three innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. At the plate, Current went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Hurley went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That run was Current's first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Allie Halverson, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and one double. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Alyssa Marlow was another key player, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with four runs, one double, and one RBI.

Cheney kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Cheney's record now sits at 5-10. As for Gonzaga Prep, their defeat was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-15.

Looking ahead, Cheney will face off against Shadle Park at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Blackhawks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Highlanders have averaged an impressive 9.1 runs per game this season. As for Gonzaga Prep, they will head out on the road to take on Central Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Bears have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.8 runs per game on average), something the Bullpups will no doubt try to take advantage of.
