After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Ceres, Lathrop was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Johansen Vikings 18-16. The win continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Vikings: they've now won six in a row.
Luz DeLuna was a standout: she went a perfect 5-for-5 with seven RBI, three runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Aubree Martinez, who scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in five of her six plate appearances.
Lathrop was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .486. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Johansen only posted a batting average of .300.
Lathrop's victory bumped their record up to 9-6. As for Johansen, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-12.
We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Lathrop is set to take on their familiar foe Livingston at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Johansen will face off against rival Central Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
