Basketball Recap: Overton Now 9-3 over Last 12 Games

There's no place like home for Overton, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. They managed a 40-35 win over the Amherst Broncos on Saturday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 46-35 back in January.

Overton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gracen Hughes led the charge by dropping a double-double with 16 points and 11 boards. Hughes is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in each of the last four games she's played. Daisy Ryan was another key player, putting up nine points along with seven boards and seven steals.

Overton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 33 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive contests.

Amherst's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Addy Simmons, who posted five points in addition to 13 rebounds and five steals. Amherst is 8-3 when Simmons posts three or more steals, but 4-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Libby Mitchell, who had eight points and five boards.

Overton is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-8 record this season. As for Amherst, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-9.

Overton has already played their next game, a 36-20 defeat against Wilcox-Hildreth on the 11th. As for Amherst, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 67-39 loss against Elm Creek on the 13th.
