Basketball Recap: Holy Family Comes Up Short

On Tuesday, the Holy Family Tigers were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 55-54 to the Horizon Hawks. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 64th, while the Hawks are ranked 19th).

Holy Family's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Roman Elliott, who went 7 for 13 on his way to 20 points. That's the most points Elliott has posted since back in November of 2023. Another player making a difference was Caleb Schott, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds.

Horizon got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Noah Sokolowski out in front who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine boards. Sokolowski is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last seven games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Nate Susi, who went 5 of 8 en route to 16 points.

Holy Family's loss dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Horizon, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Holy Family will challenge Frederick at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Holy Family is facing Frederick at the right time seeing as Frederick is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Horizon, they will square off against Legacy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Horizon's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last six contests.
