Preview: Iowa Colony Pioneers vs. La Marque Cougars
Iowa Colony is 3-0 against La Marque since January of 2023, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Iowa Colony Pioneers will head out on the road to face off against the La Marque Cougars at 6:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Iowa Colony has eight straight victories, La Marque has seven straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Iowa Colony can now show off 12 landslide victories after their most recent contest on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 46-21 margin over Bay City. Given Iowa Colony's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 345th, while Bay City is ranked 826th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Iowa Colony's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kenadie Francis, who scored nine points along with ten rebounds. Francis hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for four straight games. Eryn Roberts was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with three steals.
La Marque suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Friday. They had to suffer through a rough 93-44 loss at the hands of Brazosport.
Iowa Colony's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 22-8. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.8 points per game. As for La Marque, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-16.
Everything came up roses for Iowa Colony against La Marque in their previous matchup on January 2nd as the team secured a 60-20 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Iowa Colony since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
