Football Recap: Port Charlotte Starts off Right with Win over Island Coast

Port Charlotte had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They breezed past the Island Coast Gators to the tune of 62-0 on Friday. The win continues a trend for the Pirates in their matchups with the Gators: they've now won seven in a row.

Port Charlotte can attribute much of their success to Logan Flaherty, who threw for 82 yards and three TDs on only seven passes.

Special teams also played a big role in the game for Port Charlotte, adding 20 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Jaylen Francis, who ran a punt back for a touchdown. Another bright spot was a kickoff return touchdown from him.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Port Charlotte will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against North Fort Myers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Island Coast, they will square off against Golden Gate at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
