The Almont Raiders will face off against the Mayville Wildcats at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
Almont barely beat Croswell-Lexington the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Raiders put the hurt on the Pioneers with a sharp 9-1 victory on Tuesday. The contest marked the Raiders' most dominant win of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mayville). They were the clear victors by a 16-1 margin over North Huron on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won eight games by six runs or more so far this season.
Luka Campbell was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Mayville is 5-2 when he allows at most two walks, but 4-6 otherwise. Campbell was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played.
In other batting news, Mayville got a massive performance out of Ian Estrine, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. The Wildcats are undefeated when Estrine posts two or more runs, but 5-8 otherwise. Ty Davidson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
Mayville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.3 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 9.
Mayville has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Almont, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-7.
