Softball Game Preview: Newman Fighting Cardinals vs. Edgar Wildcats

For the second straight game, Newman will face off against Edgar. The Fighting Cardinals are taking a road trip to challenge the Wildcats at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. Newman has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with eight straight defeats, while Edgar will come in with four straight victories.

Newman is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They came up short against Edgar on Tuesday, falling 22-8.

For Edgar's part, Jorja Knetter made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up four earned (and four unearned) runs off eight hits. Knetter was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Riley Mueller was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Brandi Halvorsen, who went 4-for-5 with four runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Edgar kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Edgar's record is now 10-5. As for Newman, their loss dropped their record down to 0-7.

Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Newman hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .350. However, it's not like Edgar struggles in that department as they've averaged .328. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
