It was a good run, but Newark unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Tuesday. They were beaten by the Seneca Fighting Irish 71-39. While losing is never fun, the Norsemen can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 431st, while the Fighting Irish are ranked 190th).

When it comes to explaining why Newark lost, don't look at Payton Wills. Despite the final result, he went 5 for 8 on his way to 13 points and six boards. Cody Kulbartz was another key player, putting up five points and eight rebounds.

Newark's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-8. As for Seneca, their victory was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 17-4.

Newark won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Yorkville at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Newark is facing Yorkville at the right time seeing as Yorkville is stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Seneca, they will face off against Roanoke-Benson at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
