Basketball Recap: Spring Valley Comes Up Short

After flying high against Trinity Collegiate on Friday, Spring Valley came back down to earth. The Vikings were just a bucket shy of victory on Saturday and fell 51-50 to the Ashley Ridge Swamp Foxes. The Vikings were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Swamp Foxes apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in November of 2024.

Despite the loss, Spring Valley saw an underclassman step up: freshman Destiny Simmons dropped a double-double with 20 points and ten steals. Another player making a difference was Mariah Moody, who posted seven points.

Andrea Kelly was a one-woman wrecking crew For Ashley Ridge. as she almost dropped a double-double with 16 points and nine boards. Kelly has been hot recently, having posted nine or more rebounds the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of LaChar Lawrence, who scored eight points and seven boards.

Spring Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Ashley Ridge, the victory (which was their 29th in a row dating back to last season) raised their record to 2-0.

Spring Valley wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 67-48 loss against Dutch Fork on the 2nd. As for Ashley Ridge, they have also already played their next matchup, a 57-56 defeat against Beaufort on the 1st.
