Baseball Game Preview: Hughson Huskies vs. Hilmar Yellowjackets

The Hughson Huskies will venture away from home to face off against the Hilmar Yellowjackets at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Hughson comes in on 13 and Hilmar on four.

Hughson gave up the first runs last Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They blew past Escalon 13-4. Considering the Huskies have won 11 matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Bryce McDaniel was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-5.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lawson Aviles, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Beau Blake was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Hughson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Escalon only posted a batting average of .267.

Meanwhile, Hilmar got themselves on the board against Sonora on Friday, but Sonora never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Wildcats with a sharp 10-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Yellowjackets, who have now won nine games by eight runs or more so far this season.

Hughson pushed their record up to 19-2 with the win, which was their tenth straight on the road. As for Hilmar, their record now sits at 14-2.

Everything went Hughson's way against Hilmar in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Hughson made off with a 16-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Huskies since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
