Basketball Recap: Jace Casses' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Bishop Carroll over North Star

Bishop Carroll was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They fell 49-41 to the North Star Cougars. The Huskies were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cougars apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Bishop Carroll lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Jace Casses, who posted 17 points. He has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Will Tremel was another key player, putting up eight points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead North Star to victory, but perhaps none more so than Toby Sheehan, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Sheehan continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Ethan Smith, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and 12 boards.

Bishop Carroll's loss dropped their record down to 7-14. As for North Star, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season.

Bishop Carroll wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 54-48 defeat against Conemaugh Valley on the 18th. As for North Star, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 72-44 win against West Branch on the 14th.
