Football Recap: Cheyenne Mountain Extends Winning Streak to Five

Cheyenne Mountain extended their winning streak (dating back to last season) to five on Friday, bumping them up to 4-0. They came within five points of losing the streak, but they secured a 42-37 W against the Canon City Tigers. The Red-Tailed Hawks have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Tigers, too.

It was another big night for Sam Hawker, who rushed for 112 yards and three TDs. He also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, making two total tackles and defending two passes. Issac Cunningham was another key player, rushing for 60 yards and one touchdown.

Cheyenne Mountain didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Canon City to a completion percentage of just 41.2%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from two players: Hawker and Wyatt Boley, who each logged two passes deflected. Cheyenne Mountain wasn't nearly as limited: they posted one of 50%.

As for Canon City, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3. Despite 171 more yards than Cheyenne Mountain, the Tigers couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.

Loss or not, Canon City got some senior leadership from Jake Adamic and Gavin Reddick. Adamic rushed for 192 yards and three scores while picking up 9.6 yards per carry, while Reddick gained 196 total yards and two touchdowns. With that strong performance, Adamic is now averaging an impressive 106.8 rushing yards per game.

Coming up, Cheyenne Mountain will head out on the road to face off against Doherty at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Canon City, they will be playing at home against Harrison at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
