Basketball Recap: South Lenoir Takes a Loss

South Lenoir was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat dating back to last season. They took a 41-30 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Dixon Bulldogs. The Blue Devils were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bulldogs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

Despite the loss, South Lenoir still got an impressive performance from Tyazhia Midgett, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 14 boards. With that strong performance, Midgett is now averaging an impressive 8.3 rebounds per game.

Even though they lost, South Lenoir smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in five consecutive matches.

Dixon found their leader in freshman Lily Borden, who posted 19 points along with seven rebounds and seven steals. Those seven steals set a new season-high mark for Borden. Nevaeh Brown was another key player, putting up three points along with nine boards and four steals.

South Lenoir's record now sits at 0-6. As for Dixon, their win ended an eight-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. South Lenoir will be taking part in a tournament against West Carteret at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. West Carteret has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Dixon, they will host Heide Trask at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
