Basketball Recap: Sequoyah Chiefs vs. Etowah Eagles

Sequoyah was the 43-40 winner over Etowah when they last played one another back in February, but their luck changed this time around. The Sequoyah Chiefs took a 40-33 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Etowah Eagles on Tuesday. The Chiefs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the defeat, Sequoyah saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Carly Bass earned 11 points along with six rebounds and four steals. What's more, Bass also racked up four assists, the most she's had since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Milanni Abdus-Salaam, who had eight points in addition to six rebounds.

Etowah found their leader in sophomore Savannah Aparicio, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Aparicio is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least four every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Davis, who had 11 points along with two steals and two blocks.

Sequoyah now has a losing record at 1-2. As for Etowah, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-0.

Sequoyah has already played their next game, a 59-35 win against Horizon Christian Academy on the 23rd. As for Etowah, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 60-44 victory against Woodstock on the 22nd.
