Baseball Recap: La Junta Takes a Loss

La Junta extended their losing streak to six on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 3-12 in the process. They fell 12-8 to the Manitou Springs Mustangs. If the Tigers were looking for revenge after losing 10-9 to the Mustangs when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Keo Fisher was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. That home run was his first of the season.

As for Manitou Springs, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 8-7. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games.

On Manitou Springs' side, Cooper Frojen was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off one hit. Manitou Springs is 4-2 when Frojen allows three or fewer earned runs, but 4-5 otherwise. Frojen was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hayden Martinez, who got on base in four of his six plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Manitou Springs: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Logan Moore, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.

While La Junta had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
