Basketball Recap: Rising Sun Takes a Loss

Rising Sun was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a 53-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of the South Dearborn Knights. While losing is never fun, the Shiners can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 420th, while the Knights are ranked 207th).

When it comes to explaining why Rising Sun lost, don't look at Brody Morris. Despite the final result, he posted 19 points and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Briar Johnson, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten boards.

Even though they lost, Rising Sun smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in five consecutive games.

South Dearborn found their leader in sophomore Scout Gray, who had 19 points and six rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Gray a new career-high in blocks (two). Another player making a difference was Tyler Christian, who scored eight points and six boards.

Rising Sun's loss dropped their record down to 2-9. As for South Dearborn, with the victory, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 6-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Rising Sun will challenge Milan at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for South Dearborn, they will square off against Greensburg at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. South Dearborn is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.8 points per game this season.
