Basketball Recap: Sahuaro's Victory on Saturday Extends Winning Streak to Seven

Sahuaro extended their winning streak to seven games thanks to a huge performance from Carly Coolidge. The Sahuaro Cougars wrapped up 2024 with a 38-20 win over the Cienega Bobcats thanks in part to Coolidge, who went 6 for 9 on her way to 16 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played.

The team also got some help courtesy of Biale Sika, who posted six points and five steals. That's the most steals she has posted since back in November.

Amaya Woolford and Isabella Andaur certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Woolford put up four points along with ten boards and three blocks, while Andaur had nine points. Cienega is 5-2 when Woolford posts ten or more boards, but 3-4 otherwise.

Sahuaro is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.6 points per game. As for Cienega, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-6.

Sahuaro is on the road again on Saturday to play Poston Butte at 1:15 p.m. As for Cienega, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Sahuarita at 7:00 p.m. on January 8, 2025.
