Baseball Game Preview: South Pittsburg Pirates vs. Chattanooga School for the Liberal Arts Eagles

The South Pittsburg Pirates will challenge the Chattanooga School for the Liberal Arts Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with four defeats in a row, South Pittsburg turned things around against Whitwell on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Tigers by a score of 4-1.

Kayden Kilgore spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up six Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because South Pittsburg is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-12 otherwise.

At the plate, South Pittsburg's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Alex Phillips, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two RBI. Another was Jace Stone, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Chattanooga School for the Liberal Arts waltzed into their game on Thursday with seven straight wins... but they left with eight. They blew past the Rams 12-3. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won six contests by nine runs or more so far this season.

Jaxon Dang was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over 4.2 innings pitched. Dang was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jackson Owens, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4. Ace Edgemon also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Chattanooga School for the Liberal Arts pushed their record up to 9-2 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.1 runs over those games. As for South Pittsburg, their win bumped their record up to 6-12.
