Flag Football Game Preview: Compton Tarbabes vs. Lakewood Lancers

The Compton Tarbabes will venture away from home to square off against the Lakewood Lancers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Compton will be looking to extend their current 11-game winning streak.

Compton's defense heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They blew past Woodrow Wilson 40-0. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Tarbabes' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California flag football rankings (they are ranked 164th, while the Bruins are ranked 491st).

Compton's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Miah Gibson, who threw for 161 yards and three touchdowns while completing 73.7% of her passes. The dominant performance also gave Gibson a new career-high in passer rating (138.4). Another pass catcher making a difference was Audrey Baker, who picked up 88 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Compton didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Woodrow Wilson to a completion percentage of just 40.7%. The Tarbabes weren't nearly as limited: they posted one of 64.7%.

Compton's defense also made the game a nightmare for the opposing QB, racking up seven sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Paityne Chandler and Destin'Ee Kelley, who racked up six sacks between them. Chandler got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for Lakewood's offense. They received a blow on Wednesday as they fell 18-0 to Millikan. The Lancers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Lakewood's loss dropped their record down to 3-13. As for Compton, their victory bumped their record up to 19-2.

Everything came up roses for Compton against Lakewood in their previous matchup back in September, as the squad secured a 32-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tarbabes since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
