Softball Recap: Mariner Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

Mariner and Ida Baker squared off in some playoff action on Monday, but Mariner had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 4-3. The Tritons were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bulldogs earlier this season, when they won 8-0.

Gabi Winters spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on two hits and racked up 17 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 22 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Calleigh Buzard was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Rylie Moore, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Mariner's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 17-6. As for Ida Baker, their victory bumped their record up to 5-12.

Mariner does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Ida Baker, they will face off against Fort Myers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Green Wave have averaged an impressive 8.7 runs per game this season.
