Baseball Recap: Strawberry Crest Starts Season with Victory Against Sumner

Strawberry Crest had to kick off their season on the road on Tuesday, but they showed no ill effects. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Sumner Stingrays 3-2. The victory continues a trend for the Chargers in their matchups with the Stingrays: they've now won three in a row.

Brisen Tweedy spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on seven hits. What's more, he also racked up five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March of 2024.

On the hitting side, Nico Cappucci was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times he's played. Chase Conti was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Strawberry Crest will square off against Newsome at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Sumner, they will challenge Plant at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The last three games Sumner has played (dating back to last season) have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
