Newberg hasn't had much luck against Sherwood recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Tigers will take on the Bowmen at 5:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Newberg 3.7, Sherwood 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
If Newberg beats Sherwood with 13 runs on Monday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. The Tigers never let Glencoe get on the board and left with a 13-0 win on Friday. The match marked the Tigers' most dominant victory of the season.

Cole Thomas was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Newberg let Zadek Bowlby and Lucas Vaughn run wild. Bowlby got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Vaughn went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most runs Bowlby has posted since back in March. Judah Campos also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Newberg kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 9.4.
Meanwhile, Sherwood won against Forest Grove on Wednesday with two runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. The Bowmen beat the Vikings by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 2-1. The win was nothing new for the Bowmen as they're now sitting on three straight.
Sherwood saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Henry Maskew, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
Newberg has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Sherwood, their record now sits at 12-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Newberg has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Sherwood struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Newberg came up short against Sherwood in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 8-4. Can the Tigers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
