Softball Preview: Rison Wildcats vs. Ouachita Warriors
The Rison Wildcats will head out on the road to square off against the Ouachita Warriors at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Rison has five straight wins, Ouachita has 11 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Rison stacked a seventh blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Monday. They were the clear victor by a 16-5 margin over McGehee.
Josey Edwards made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits (she also only allowed one walk). Edwards has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive pitching appearances. Edwards was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Layne Potter and Haven Simpson did most of the damage at the plate: Potter scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3, while Simpson went 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Carlie Crain was another key contributor, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.
Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Ouachita's offense. They suffered a tough 19-0 defeat at the hands of Junction City on Friday.
Rison pushed their record up to 8-3 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.8 runs per game. As for Ouachita, their loss dropped their record down to 0-9.
