Volleyball Recap: Waverly Comes Up Short in High-Profile Match with Elkhorn North

Waverly faced Elkhorn North in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Vikings took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wolves. The Vikings were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Wolves earlier this season, when they won 3-2.

Waverly may have fallen short, but they were sure consistent: they scored 20 points in every single set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-20, 25-20.

Gracie Lauenstein paced Waverly's offense, picking up six kills. Lauenstein got some help from Tyka Hoos and her 16 assists. Finally, Chelsey Weatherwax kept Waverly's defense grounded, leading the team with two blocks.

This is the second loss in a row for Waverly and nudges their season record down to 24-4. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 30-0 Norris (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 88.9% over those games). As for Elkhorn North, their victory bumped their record up to 21-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Waverly will welcome York at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Elkhorn North, they will face off against Norris at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
