Meanwhile, Bethlehem Center sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over Bentworth on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Bulldogs have posted against the Bearcats since April 26, 2022.
Eli Wright made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one RBI.
In other batting news, Jonah Sussan was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Logan Durbin, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Bethlehem Center's victory ended a six-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-9. As for Chartiers-Houston, they now have a losing record of 6-7.
Bethlehem Center's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Chartiers-Houston hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .347. It's a different story for Bethlehem Center, though, as they've only averaged .244. Will they be able to contain Chartiers-Houston's hitters?
Everything went Chartiers-Houston's way against Bethlehem Center in their previous matchup back in April, as Chartiers-Houston made off with a 6-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Buccaneers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
