The Mt. Baker Mountaineers will venture away from home to challenge the Cedar Park Christian Eagles at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Mt. Baker easily dispatched Meridian on Tuesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Mountaineers fell just short of Lynden Christian by a score of 7-5 on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Mountaineers have suffered against the Lyncs since May 16, 2019.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cedar Park Christian). They blew past Sultan 20-0 on Thursday. The win was nothing new for the Eagles as they're now sitting on four straight.
Gianna Charlton and Shelby Southard made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Charlton pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Southard struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Charlton has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. At bat, Charlton went 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base, while Southard got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Adelaide Foster was incredible, firing off two home runs, seven RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-4. Those seven RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Isabela Stewart, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base.
Cedar Park Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .676. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Cedar Park Christian's record is now 10-2. As for Mt. Baker, their loss dropped their record down to 7-5.
Mt. Baker took their victory against Cedar Park Christian in their previous matchup back in May of 2023 by a conclusive 12-1 score. Will the Mountaineers repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
