The Organ Mountain Knights are taking a road trip to take on the Las Cruces Bulldawgs at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Organ Mountain has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last five games.
Last Thursday, Organ Mountain was able to grind out a solid win over Alamogordo, taking the game 46-39.
Organ Mountain got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Aliyah Martinez out in front who went 5 for 12 on her way to 17 points. Mia Bellamy was another key player, putting up eight points.
Meanwhile, Las Cruces came into Thursday's match having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They took their contest on Thursday with ease, bagging a 53-16 win over Gadsden. The Bulldawgs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight games by 24 points or more this season.
Las Cruces' win came from a few key players Organ Mountain will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Sofia Herrera, who posted eight points and seven steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Bethzy Quinones, who went 9 of 21 en route to 18 points.
Las Cruces smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.
Organ Mountain's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-11. As for Las Cruces, their win bumped their record up to 10-7.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Organ Mountain has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 25.7 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Las Cruces struggles in that department as they've been averaging 22.9 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Organ Mountain took a serious blow against Las Cruces in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, falling 62-35. Can Organ Mountain avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
