Football Recap: Northern Durham Comes Up Short

Northern Durham played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 36-8 loss at the hands of the Mount Zion Christian Academy Mighty Warriors. The Knights were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mighty Warriors apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in September of 2023.

Even if they lost, Northern Durham's defensive line still kept up the pressure with five sacks. Leading the way was Sterling Edwards Jr. with four.

Sherrad Bennard III had an outrageously good game for Mount Zion Christian Academy as he rushed for 111 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 carries, and also threw for 201 yards and one TD while completing 72.2% of his passes. Bennard III's longest rush was for an impressive 61 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. 92 of Bennard III's passing yards were hauled in by Josiah Casper.

Northern Durham now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Mount Zion Christian Academy, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.

Coming up, Northern Durham will challenge Green Hope at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Knights will need to watch out since the Falcons have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season. As for Mount Zion Christian Academy, they will face off against South Wake at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
