Colerain CB Dukes commits to Louisville, Dunbar WR Williamson commits to Michigan State.
After a relatively quiet first few weeks of the season, there was a flurry of recruiting activity in Ohio the past few days as two seniors and a junior made verbal commitments to play college football.
St. Edward (Lakewood) junior
Kyle Kalis, a 6-foot-5, 302-pound offensive tackle headlined the trio of players as he made a verbal commitment to Ohio State this past weekend, according to ScoutingOhio.com.
Kalis also had offers from Pittsburgh and Wisconsin, according to ScoutingOhio.com. Kalis could remind Ohio State fans of current Buckeye freshman Andrew Norwell, who was a heralded recruit out of
Anderson (Cincinnati) in the 2010 class.
Speaking of Cincinnati-area standouts,
Colerain senior cornerback
Chris Dukes verbally committed to Louisville on Sunday, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.
Dukes, who is 5-foot-9 and 185 pounds, is one of the top players in a Colerain senior class that is loaded with talent.
Mark Porter, director of ScoutingOhio.com, said Dukes could be a player who gets on the field early for Louisville.
"Chris Dukes has all the tools to be a great corner in college," Porter said. "Good size, long arms, explosive and can out-jump most wide receivers for the ball. Dukes can play man coverage when needed and is very effective when playing zone schemes."
Dukes also had offers from Boston College, Colorado, Pittsburgh, Marshall, Ohio University and Bowling Green. Dukes was offered by the Cardinals this past spring.
Colerain (4-0), rated No. 9 nationally in the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 presented by the Army National Guard, plays host to
Lakota West (West Chester) (1-3) Friday night.
It’s been very quiet on the recruiting front in the Cincinnati area so far this fall – Dukes was the first commitment in nearly a month after
Finneytown offensive lineman
Donovan Clark pledged to Michigan State in August.
The Dayton area reported another commitment this week as
Dunbar senior wide receiver/defensive back
Roger Williamson (6-1, 185) committed to Michigan State, according to the Dayton Daily News.
Williamson committed to the Spartans on the field before the Michigan State-Notre Dame game on Saturday, according to the publication. He had 23 other offers, including Stanford, Kansas, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
The Dayton Daily News said Williamson has seven receptions for 183 yards and two touchdowns and 36 tackles this season.
