Pomona hasn't had much luck against Evergreen recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Panthers will host the Cougars at 4:00 p.m.
Saturday just wasn't the day for Pomona's offense. They came up short against Golden on Saturday, falling 7-0. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Panthers were not able to get on the board.
Meanwhile, Evergreen had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 win over the Lions. Six seems to be a good number for the Cougars as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Cole Laursen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered four earned runs on eight hits.
On the hitting side, Brody March was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Brecken Worthington, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Evergreen pushed their record up to 11-4-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Pomona, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-11.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Pomona has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 7.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Evergreen struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Pomona suffered a grim 11-3 defeat to Evergreen when the teams last played on April 9th. Will the Panthers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
