The Thunderbird Titans are taking a road trip to square off against the St. Mary's Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Thunderbird is coming into the game hot, having won their last five games.
On Tuesday, Thunderbird made easy work of Shadow Mountain and carried off a 16-6 win. The Titans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by seven runs or more this season.
Matt Hornburg was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Thunderbird let Hunter Donathan and Austin Coates run wild. Donathan went 1-for-3 with four stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI, while Coates got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Thunderbird is 9-1 when Donathan posts two or more runs, but 7-8 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Kerr, who earned two RBI, one run, and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, St. Mary's fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Saguaro on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Sabercats.
St. Mary's saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Javier Romero, who went 2-for-3 with one run.
Thunderbird's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-9. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for St. Mary's, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 14-10 record this season.
Thunderbird couldn't quite get it done against St. Mary's in their previous matchup back in February of 2024 as they fell 4-0. Can the Titans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
