Softball Game Preview: Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted Lakers vs. Central Raiders

Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted is 0-4 against Central since May of 2016 but things could change on Thursday. The Lakers will square off against the Raiders at 4:00 p.m. Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.

Things were looking good for Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted after they put the first run on the board on Monday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They took a 10-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of Glencoe-Silver Lake.

Kirsten Heber spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned (and four unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Aubrey Barnes was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Breckyn Jonell was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Central had just enough and edged out Maranatha Christian Academy 2-1 on Tuesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Raiders.

Central's victory bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-8.

Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted might still be hurting after the 16-4 loss they got from Central when the teams last played back in May of 2022. Can the Lakers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
