Columbus City - North recap October 8, 2013
Northland moved up to 270 from 302 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Columbus City - North. The Vikings were able to move up by beating Centennial 55-6.
Whetstone was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to fourth in the league. Earlier in the week, the Braves triumphed over East 44-26.
Brookhaven's dynamic duo of Macyah Fleming and Terry Barker proved to be unstoppable against Linden-McKinley, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Fleming threw for 75 yards and 2 touchdowns and Barker had 46 yards receiving. Asan Crego helped Brookhaven's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 16 yards.
MELEK WHITE was a passing and rushing force as Whetstone bested the Tigers. WHITE's key target this week was WHITE, who caught 3 passes for 33 yards.
Don Poff's team's RAMROTH FINNEGAN and DAVID SIMMONS have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-3 quarterback FINNEGAN has thrown for 1,171 yards this season, while SIMMONS has 21 catches for 401 yards. The Bearcats' David Peoples leads the league in rushing yards with 536.
The top two teams in Columbus City - North will face off this week when first place Northland takes on second place Mifflin. Northland bested the Stars last week, while Mifflin beat Beechcroft.
Kevin Tooson's team took down Centennial 55-6 last week, the largest margin of any game.
