Baseball Recap: Foothill Drops Season-High Score on Esparto

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Foothill). They put the hurt on the Esparto Spartans with a sharp 16-6 victory on Saturday. The win was some much needed relief for the Mustangs as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

Julian Tripp was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. He also put up an RBI, which was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Foothill got a massive performance out of Richard Paiz, who scored three runs and stole four bases while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave Paiz a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jose Barraza, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-4.

Foothill always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .647. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Foothill's victory bumped their record up to 3-9. As for Esparto, they dropped their record down to 0-4 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Coming up, Foothill will be playing in front of their home fans against Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Esparto, they will venture away from home to square off against Winters at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
