San Dieguito Academy dropped their record down to 7-17 on Friday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Escondido Cougars, falling 17-0. Mustangs fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Cougars since on Friday.

As for Escondido, they moved to 16-6 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by seven runs or more this season.

For Escondido's part, Ryder Taylor and Ace Sanchez made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Taylor didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over six innings pitched. Meanwhile, Sanchez pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. At bat, Taylor went 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBI, while Sanchez got on base in four of his six plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and two RBI. Those four runs gave Sanchez a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Andrew Carrilo, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kaden Hermsen, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. San Dieguito Academy will challenge rival Ramona at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Escondido is set to take on their familiar foe Valley Center at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Cougars 3.4, the Jaguars 3.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.
