Westfall has gone a perfect 8-0 against Southeastern recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Mustangs will venture away from home to face off against the Panthers at 5:15 p.m. Westfall's pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so Southeastern's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Fans were treated to a battle of the Mustangs on Saturday. Westfall never let Lynchburg-Clay get on the board and left with a 2-0 win.
Westfall's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Kenzie Cook, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI. Gabby Henry also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Southeastern hadn't done well against Unioto recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Panthers blew past the Shermans 11-1. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Panthers considering their one-run performance the contest before.
Kylie Williams was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Gracie Brown was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing three bases while going 4-for-4. Lydia Williams was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three runs and one triple.
Southeastern kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 9.6.
Westfall has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Southeastern, their victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 4-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Westfall has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Southeastern struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Westfall's way against Southeastern when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Westfall made off with a 7-0 win. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
