Volleyball Recap: Kouts Mustangs & Fillies vs. Hebron Hawks

Kouts lost to Hebron back in April of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Monday. The Mustangs & Fillies walked away with a 3-1 win over the Hawks. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mustangs & Fillies.

Kouts had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. The final score came out to 24-26, 25-17, 25-20, 25-17.

Jake Boomer paced Kouts' offense, picking up 21 kills. Boomer got some help from Gavin DeYoung and his 40 assists. Cash Terpstra controlled things from the service line, finishing with five aces.

Despite the loss, Hebron saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Antonio Pena had 12 digs, three aces, and two blocks. Pena is on a roll when it comes to digs, as he's now had ten or more in each of the last 11 games he's played dating back to last season.

Kouts' victory bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Hebron, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-6.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Kouts will face off against Michigan City at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Hebron, they will challenge South Shore Homeschool Athletics at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
