Baseball Game Preview: Fairfax Stampede vs. North Mustangs

For the second straight game, Fairfax will face off against North. The Stampede will face off against the Mustangs at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Fairfax is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.

Fairfax had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 13-run drubbing they dealt North on Monday. The Stampede put the hurt on the Mustangs with a sharp 19-6 win.

Alexander Tovar was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Isaiah Balderas was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Fairfax is undefeated when Balderas posts two or more runs, but 2-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Armando Ramirez, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3.

Fairfax always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matchups.

North's defeat dropped their record down to 3-11. As for Fairfax, their record now sits at 7-8.

North's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Fairfax hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .355.
