Basketball Recap: Michael Mcmahon's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Greenville over Versailles

Greenville lost against Versailles back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Greenville Green Wave lost to the Versailles Tigers at home by a 63-48 margin. While losing is never fun, the Green Wave can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 780th, while the Tigers are ranked 90th).

Greenville's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Michael Mcmahon, who posted 11 points. Those 11 points gave Mcmahon a new career-high. Layne Hocker was another key player, putting up eight points and three steals.

Greenville has been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 12 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-15 record this season. As for Versailles, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-3.

Greenville will face off against West Carrollton at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. West Carrollton will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Greenville surely won't give up without a fight. As for Versailles, they will take on St. John's at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Versailles has won three straight at home, while St. John's won six straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
