Softball Game Preview: Pinckney Pirates vs. Salem Rocks

The Pinckney Pirates are taking a road trip to challenge the Salem Rocks at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Pinckney had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt Skyline on Wednesday. The Pirates blew past the Eagles 13-2. The Pirates have beaten the Eagles the last six times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Eagles has come to flipping the script.

Jade Chelenyak looked comfortable as she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Mackenzie Burns, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. She also put up a triple, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Natally Pease, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Pinckney always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Skyline only posted an OBP of .273.

Meanwhile, Salem entered their tilt with Brighton on Wednesday with seven consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with eight. They put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 11-1 victory. That's two games straight that the Rocks have won by exactly ten runs.

Pinckney pushed their record up to 11-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. As for Salem, their record is now 9-3-1.
