Softball Recap: Cumberland Comes Up Short

Cumberland had lost 11 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 2-10 to make it 12. They came up short against the Central Virginia Homeschool Athletic Association Patriots, falling 11-1. The Dukes were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Patriots apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

As for Central Virginia Homeschool Athletic Association, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games.

For Central Virginia Homeschool Athletic Association's part, Sophia Peterson made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Peterson has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Central Virginia Homeschool Athletic Association let Aubrey Edmonds and Carlie Anderson run wild. Edmonds went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI, while Anderson went 3-for-4 with one home run. That's the most hits Anderson has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Reagan Litchford, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Looking ahead, Cumberland will challenge Monticello at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Central Virginia Homeschool Athletic Association does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
