Softball Recap: Basic Wins Going Away Against Southeast Career Tech

With a playoff win on the line, Basic rose to the challenge on Saturday. Everything went their way against the Southeast Career Tech Roadrunners as they made off with a 9-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Wolves, who have now won eight matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Melanie Hughes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up 11 Ks.

On the hitting side, Isabella Christensen was incredible, going 3-for-5 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Samantha Marquez was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

The win made it two in a row for Basic and bumps their season record up to 15-11. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games. As for Southeast Career Tech, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 18-10.

Basic and Southeast Career Tech are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Wolves will square off against Doral Academy Red Rock at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Dragons' pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so Basic's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Southeast Career Tech, they will welcome Foothill at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Roadrunners' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Falcons have averaged an impressive 9.2 runs per game this season.
