Basketball Recap: Mountain View Bruins vs. Layton Christian Academy Eagles
The Mountain View Bruins pushed their score all the way to 60 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 76-60 bruising from Layton Christian Academy. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Mountain View of the 67-58 defeat they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in January.
When it comes to explaining why Mountain View lost, one person who can't be blamed is Bryce Mella. Despite the final result, he scored 28 points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Simeon Suguturaga, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds.
Layton Christian Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Tyrin Jones out in front who scored 23 points along with five rebounds. Alan Gballou was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks.
Mountain View's loss dropped their record down to 13-8. As for Layton Christian Academy, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 20-3.
Mountain View will be playing in front of their home fans against the Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Payson knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matches -- so hopefully the Bruins like a good challenge. As for Layton Christian Academy, they will head out on the road to square off against the Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Provo is on a four-game streak of home wins, the Eagles a five-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
