Softball Game Preview: Bangor Vikings vs. Lawrence Tigers

Bangor has gone a perfect 5-0 against Lawrence recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Vikings will head out to face off against the Tigers at 4:30 p.m. Bangor is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10 runs per game this season.

On Saturday, Bangor made easy work of Fennville and carried off a 12-1 victory. The win continues a trend for the Vikings in their matchups with the Blackhawks: they've now won nine in a row.

Isabelle Horvath made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Emily Wisniewski, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one triple. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Carley McCoy, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI.

Bangor was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fennville only posted a batting average of .111.

Meanwhile, Lawrence was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their tenth straight loss dating back to last season. They lost 14-7 to Hartford. On the bright side, the seven- run performance marked the Tigers' highest-scoring match to date.

Lawrence's defeat dropped their record down to 0-9. As for Bangor, their record now sits at 14-3.

Bangor was able to grind out a solid victory over Lawrence when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 13-8. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
