Reading is a perfect 4-0 against Purcell Marian since May of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Blue Devils will host the Cavaliers at 5:00 p.m. Reading's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Purcell Marian's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Reading came out on top against Clark Montessori on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run fifth inning. The Blue Devils blew past the Cougars 9-1. The Blue Devils haven't had any issues with the Cougars recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Charlie Hess made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two doubles and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Connor Davis, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two doubles. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Aaron Pruden, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.
Reading always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Clark Montessori only posted an OBP of .185.
Meanwhile, Purcell Marian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They lost 11-5 to Roger Bacon.
Zavier Wright made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Ronan Ribar was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
Reading's victory bumped their record up to 13-6. As for Purcell Marian, their loss dropped their record down to 5-15.
Reading took their win against Purcell Marian in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 20-6 score. Will the Blue Devils repeat their success, or do the Cavaliers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
