Recap: Grandview Wolves vs. Cherokee Trail Cougars

On Friday, The Grandview Wolves faced the Cherokee Trail Cougars in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Grandview fell just short of Cherokee Trail by a score of 23-21. Grandview was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Cherokee Trail apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2022.

Several Wolves players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Liam Szarka, who rushed for 97 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 148 yards and a touchdown. The team also got some help courtesy of Chris Blanks, who rushed for 80 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries.

Among those leading the charge was Noah Collins, who rushed for 122 yards and two touchdowns. Cherokee Trail also got help from Peyton Castro who showed off his sure hands for 109 receiving yards.

Grandview's loss dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Cherokee Trail, their victory ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 5-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Grandview will take on Cherry Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Cherry Creek is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling. As for Cherokee Trail, they will be playing at home against Smoky Hill at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Smoky Hill is coming into the game on a six-game losing streak.
