Head-Royce (Oakland) has one of the most successful small-school baseball programs in California, and for the past four seasons Nico Hoerner has been a big reason why.
A winner of 82 games during Hoerner's four years on the varsity team, Head-Royce has reached the North Coast Section finals four times, winning three championships.
Headed to Stanford, Hoerner put up impressive numbers during his four-year career, as he had a .494 career batting average (172-for-348) with 148 runs, 43 doubles and 12 home runs.
Named the East Bay Player of the Year by the San Francisco Chronicle, Hoerner is also the MaxPreps Small Schools State Player of the Year.
Coach of the Year: Jeff Ingles, Winters Winters won its 18th league championship under Ingles and an 11th Northern Section title, despite having a lineup filled with mostly sophomores and freshmen. Ingles has won 497 games in his career (497-184-7) and has won more section championships than any coach in Northern Section history.
The MaxPreps Small Schools All-State Teams consist of two teams of 30 players each. The players are selected from state enrollment divisions that generally include teams with less than 1,000 students. Some larger schools may be included on the the team due to section divisional alignment based on competitive equity.
