Baseball Recap: Hugo Sets Scoring Season-High Against Wapanucka

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hugo). Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Wapanucka Indians a 21-0 shutout on Thursday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Buffaloes as it put an end to their seven-game losing streak.

Dakota Coulter made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances. Hugo is undefeated when Coulter posts two or more runs, but 1-9 otherwise.

In other batting news, Maliki Gillean was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, three runs, and one triple. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Logan Allen, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3.

Hugo always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .758. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Hugo's win bumped their record up to 6-9. As for Wapanucka, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hugo will head out to face off against Antlers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Wapanucka, they will venture away from home to challenge Calvin at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
